Hardwood Floor Refinishing

Scratches, gray traffic lanes and old orange finishes come out with a full sand and refinish. Free estimates anywhere in DFW.

Bring your hardwood floors back

Hardwood can be sanded and refinished several times over its life. A full refinish removes scratches, gray traffic lanes, water marks and yellowed or orange finishes, then seals the wood with fresh, durable coats. It costs far less than replacing the floor and lets you change the color at the same time.

Our refinishing process

  1. Inspect the floor: moisture readings, board thickness, loose boards and the existing finish.
  2. Sand in several passes, from coarse to fine grit, including edges and corners.
  3. Fill gaps and nail holes, then buff the floor smooth.
  4. Apply stain samples on your own floor so you can pick the color in your light.
  5. Apply finish coats: oil-based or water-based polyurethane, satin or matte sheen.
  6. Walk the finished floor with you before we leave.

Full refinish or screen and recoat?

If the finish is dull but the wood itself is not scratched through, a screen and recoat is the faster, lower-cost option. We buff the top coat and apply fresh finish without sanding to bare wood. Deep scratches, stains, gray wood or a color change need a full sand.

Choosing a stain and finish

  • Natural and light neutral tones show off oak grain and keep rooms bright.
  • Mid-brown and dark walnut tones hide minor wear but show dust more.
  • Water-based finishes dry faster, have less odor and stay clear over time.
  • Oil-based finishes add a warm amber tone and build a thick protective film.

We also refinish engineered hardwood when the wear layer is thick enough, and refinish stairs, landings and borders to match.

Hardwood Refinishing questions

How long does hardwood refinishing take?

It depends on square footage, stain and the finish you choose. Water-based finishes dry faster than oil-based. Your written estimate includes the schedule, including when you can walk on the floor and move furniture back.

Can engineered hardwood be refinished?

Usually yes, if the real-wood wear layer is thick enough. We check the wear layer during your free estimate before recommending a sand.

What is the difference between refinishing and a screen and recoat?

A screen and recoat buffs the top coat and adds fresh finish. It works when the finish is dull but the wood is not damaged. Deep scratches, stains or a color change need a full sand to bare wood.
